During his accomplished career, Sabu, Sr. earned the respect and admiration of many Monterey-area leaders and elected officials. He has won the Wharf Person of the Year Award for 1993 from Monterey Mayor Dan Albert. The State of California has bestowed several honors on the Old Fisherman’s Grotto and the Shake family. Sabu, Sr., Chris and Sabu, Jr. are honored by Monterey Mayor Dan Albert and Bruce McPherson, at the time a State Senator and currently the California Secretary of State.
